Putuo Buddhist Monastery in Little Nanhai

Located between Jiadong Community of Tainan City’s Houbi District and the Fangzilin area of Baihe District, Nanhai Putuo Buddhist Monastery is surrounded by a lake. Some people call it the Little Nanhai. The tranquil water, quiet as a mirror, reflects the beautiful landscape. Standing on the shore, you can see white egrets return in large flocks.

Little Nanhai is a flood prevention and irrigation pond of the Chianan water system and serves as a reservoir for the Irrigation Association. The view extends into an endless canvass of fields after fields of green lotus leaves. Cypress trees line up along the lakeshore and pergolas attract visitors to take a moment of rest in the breezes. The two ficus trees in front of the monastery stand steadfastly like two meditating monks. Putuo Buddhist Monastery houses the Guanyin Bodhisattva. Its classic temple structure with red tiles and white walls set against a backdrop of green mountains and waters nestles quietly in the air of peace and tranquility.
